Welcome to Terra Firma Travel. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our iOS and Android application. Terra Firma is a travel planning app that helps you prepare for trips — covering packing, visa requirements, local information, and more.
When you create a trip, Terra Firma stores your destination(s), departure and return dates, trip title, and any packing list items you add. This data is stored in an encrypted local database on your device using SQLite. It is never transmitted to our servers.
Terra Firma includes an optional passport section where you can record your name, passport number, expiry date, date of birth, issuing country, and a photo of your passport. This data is stored exclusively in your device's secure encrypted storage (iOS Keychain / Android EncryptedSharedPreferences) — the most secure storage available on each platform. It is never transmitted off your device and is not included in any iCloud or Google Drive backup.
Entering passport information is entirely optional. It is used solely to show you a colour-coded expiry indicator when viewing your trip, so you know whether your passport will be valid for travel.
If you choose to add emergency contacts or vaccination records, this information is stored locally in the encrypted database on your device. It is not transmitted off your device and is not shared with any third party.
Your preferences — including passport country, language, and Amazon region — are stored locally in the app's database on your device.
Terra Firma does not transmit your personal data to any server. However, certain features open external links in your browser or other apps:
The "What to Pack" section includes suggested products with "Shop" links. Tapping a Shop link opens Amazon's website in your browser with a pre-filled search query. These links include an Amazon Associates affiliate identifier — if you make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you. Amazon's own privacy policy governs what data Amazon collects when you visit their site. We do not transmit any of your personal information to Amazon.
The "Before You Go" section provides links to official government travel advice pages (such as the UK FCDO, US State Department, and equivalent authorities) and to official visa information sources. Tapping these links opens your browser. Each external website's own privacy policy applies once you leave the app.
The Maps card in "What to Pack" provides buttons to open your destination in Apple Maps or Google Maps. Tapping these opens the respective app with your destination's coordinates. Each maps application's own privacy policy governs how it handles location data.
Terra Firma can send you local push notifications to remind you to prepare before a trip departs. These notifications are generated entirely on your device — they are not sent via any external server or notification service. No personal data leaves your device as part of this feature.
All trip and preference data is stored in an encrypted SQLite database on your device, protected by the operating system's standard file system encryption. Passport and sensitive personal data is stored in the iOS Keychain or Android EncryptedSharedPreferences, which provides an additional layer of hardware-backed encryption.
Deleting the app from your device permanently removes all locally stored data. There is no cloud backup of your Terra Firma data and no way for us to recover it once deleted.
Terra Firma Travel is not designed for or directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
