The short version: BeamCal only reads your calendar data to display events. It never creates, edits, or deletes events. All processing happens on your Mac — nothing is sent to any server.
Introduction
Welcome to BeamCal. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our macOS menu bar application for viewing your upcoming calendar events.
Read-Only, Local-Only
BeamCal reads your calendar events to display them in the menu bar. It never creates, modifies, or deletes any events. All data processing happens entirely on your Mac and is never transmitted to any server.
Information We Access
Calendar Data (Read-Only)
- Event dates — To highlight which days have events
- Event titles — Shown in the hover tooltip when you mouse over a date
- Event times and calendar names — Displayed in the tooltip to help you identify events at a glance
BeamCal accesses all calendars you have configured in the macOS Calendar app, including iCloud, Google, Exchange, and any other accounts you have set up.
User Preferences
BeamCal stores the following preferences locally on your Mac using standard macOS storage (UserDefaults):
- Your chosen colour for days with events
- Your chosen colour for days without events
- Your chosen appearance mode (System, Light, or Dark)
- Whether BeamCal launches at login
These preferences never leave your device.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not create, edit, or delete calendar events
- We do not transmit any calendar data to any server
- We do not collect analytics or usage data
- We do not use any third-party data collection or advertising SDKs
- We do not store any calendar data outside of your Mac
Third-Party Services
BeamCal does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. The app operates entirely independently on your device.
App Sandbox & Permissions
BeamCal runs in the macOS App Sandbox, which restricts what the app can access on your system. The only permission BeamCal requests is read access to your calendars via Apple’s EventKit framework.
You can revoke calendar access at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars.
Data Retention
BeamCal does not retain any calendar data between sessions. Events are fetched from the macOS Calendar store each time you open the calendar view and are held only in memory while the app is running.
Your preference settings are stored locally and are removed when you uninstall the app.
Children’s Privacy
BeamCal does not collect or transmit any personal data, making it suitable for users of all ages.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on our website and updating the “Last updated” date above.
