Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a trip?

Tap the + button on the home screen. Search for your destination city or country, set your departure and return dates, and tap Save. Terra Firma will immediately generate packing suggestions, visa guidance, and local tips based on your destination.

Can I add multiple destinations to one trip?

Yes. After creating a trip you can add further destinations from the trip detail screen. Packing suggestions and local information will be combined across all your destinations.

Where is my data stored? Does it go to the cloud?

Everything you enter into Terra Firma — trips, packing lists, passport details, emergency contacts — is stored locally on your device only. We have no backend server and your data is never transmitted to us or any third party. Deleting the app permanently removes all your data.

Is my passport information secure?

Yes. Passport data is stored in your device's secure encrypted storage (iOS Keychain on iPhone), which is hardware-backed and separate from the rest of the app's data. It is never transmitted off your device and is not included in any cloud backup.

Why does the adapter suggestion say I need a specific plug type?

Terra Firma detects the socket types used in your destination country and tailors the adapter recommendation accordingly. Some countries use multiple socket types (Italy, for example, uses types C, F, and L), so the suggestion will name all of them to help you find an adapter that covers every socket you might encounter.

How does the clothing suggestion work?

Clothing quantities are calculated from your trip length, capped at a sensible number of days. If you enable the Carry-on only toggle, quantities are reduced to fit a cabin bag. If you enable Washing machine available, quantities are reduced further since you can wash mid-trip — a laundry tip is shown to explain this.

Why do some suggestions have a cabin bag label?

Items marked cabin bag are things you'll want accessible during the flight — such as a neck pillow, sleep mask, or compression socks. The label is a reminder to pack these in your carry-on rather than your hold luggage.

How do I download an offline map?

Terra Firma links directly to Apple Maps and Google Maps for your destination so you can save an offline map yourself. In the What to Pack tab, tap the Maps card and then tap How to save an offline map for step-by-step instructions for both apps.

The visa information doesn't look right for my passport.

Set your passport country in Settings → Passport country. Once set, the visa guidance on the Before You Go tab will link directly to the official government travel advice page for your nationality — for example, the FCDO for British passport holders or the State Department for US passport holders.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Settings → Delete all stored data. This permanently removes all trips, packing lists, and preferences from your device. Alternatively, uninstalling the app removes everything.

The app showed me a product suggestion I wasn't expecting.

Suggestions are generated automatically based on your destination's climate, water safety, power sockets, and trip duration. Some suggestions include affiliate links to Amazon — please always research products before purchasing and check ingredients or specifications suit your needs. For health or medical products, consult a healthcare professional.

Do you earn money from the Amazon links?

Yes. The Shop links in the suggestions section are Amazon Associates affiliate links. If you purchase something after clicking one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This helps support the development of the app.
